Plastic Bottles
Plastic bottles that pervade our society are one of the worst culprits of debris in our oceans. While the US is relatively good at trash management, the scale of our consumption is astounding.
Polyethylene terephthalate, commonly abbreviated as PET, is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family and is used in synthetic fibers, beverage, food and other liquid containers.
80,000,000 single use PET plastic bottles are consumed in the US each day. At these levels, efforts to stem the flow of additional plastic into the ocean has been ineffective.
Further, recent research has shown that PET plastic over time actually absorbs DDT, a cancer causing pesticide.
Our goal with this film and clean up effort is to change our consumption behavior and improve our recycling levels.
